GENERAL APPROACH OF TURKISH OTOLARYNGOLOGISTS TO PATIENTS WITH VERTIGO: A SURVEY STUDY

1Pamukkale Üniversitesi, Kulak Burun Boğaz, Denizli, Türkiye Introduction: The aims of the study are to investigate the preference of Otolaryngology doctors for initial care of vertigo patients and the level of basic knowledge about the subject. We also plan to contribute to curriculum of further vertigo courses.

Material and Methods: The method of the study was internet which was done by "google forms" web sites. The target population was the Otolaryngology doctors regardless of age or experience duration. Questionnaire was consist of 27 questions. There were two demographic, 2 conceptional questions in the first part. It continued with seven questions for general approach to patients, 9 questions for specific diseases, 7 questions about general problems.

Results: Forty-seven(%33,6) doctors from private hospitals, 30 (%21,4) doctors from state hospitals, 28(%20) doctors from universities, 22(%15,7) doctors from state education hospitals, 13(%9,3) doctors from private offices, a total of 140 doctors were filled the questionnaire. Fifty-eight(%41,4) of them had experience more than 20 years, while 34(%24,3) of them had experience between 10-20 years, 27(%19,3) of them had 5-10 years of experience and 21(%19) of them had 1-5 years of experience.

Conclusion: The basic knowledge of the subjects who participate the survey is adequate but organizing new training courses using various methods is needed to change some prejudices and to implement new developments in to daily practice. Keywords : Vertigo, dizziness, education, survey
